“The Monster Walks Among Us!”
The people of the small Scandinavian village began to cheer as the small longboat sank into the waters of the distant fjord. The Monster watched from a nearby ally as the unconscious woman he held in his arms began to stir. Why had these people bound her to that boat and set it ablaze? Were they all possessed by a demon like she had claimed? The Monster knew he was in the right for rescuing the woman from the burning vessel, but would he find any charity from the people who had performed this act of savagery?
Frankenstein’s creation slowly retreated down the alleyway towards a hamlet with an open back yard. For a moment the Monster studied the large oak tree which adjacent close to the home. Oddly, there was a silver etched longsword plunged deep into the massive trunk. What mad man would have the strength or ambition to perform such a task? Before he could ponder this query any further the woman sprung to consciousness. She recognized this estate and the yard in which they stood. The Monster had brought the woman to her father’s ancestral home!
Has a demon dressed in black convinced an entire Scandinavian village to murder one of their own daughters? Will Frankenstein’s monster find peace for the woman in the northern highlands? Who kill the large timber wolf near the outcast’s encampment? Collect the series to find out!
Reviewer Notes
The Monster has finally escaped the confines of Mary Shelley’s original work and is free to carve his own destiny. That being said… what adventures does Gary Friedrich have instore for our hero? If issue five gives us any hints, this series will be amazing.
They say every man needs the love of a good woman, and that appears to be the Monster’s focus in this story. A damsel is saved from the brutish villagers and hope has filled a tormented soul. The only question looming is will it last? It’s a horror series, I think you know the answer to that. It matters not because Gary Friedrich and Mike Ploog will make it awesome whatever the case may be. I wish Marvel still produced comic books with this level of care. Their dedicated fans deserve it. I’m giving this issue four out of five stars.
