Journey To Lost Orlaak
Eben Del Sombra and his doctor stood over the sleeping chamber maid. The red haired woman had refused her master’s advances, spouting some crazy talk about being queen of a golden city of Orlaak. Eben Del Sombra was not used to having his servants disrespecting him even when he was in the wrong. But the woman’s stories had intrigued his greed.
The lord of Sombra Manor called on the finest psychologist to interpret her dreams further. Eben’s lust for his maid’s body became secondary to that of finding the location of the sunken city gold.
It took weeks for the maniacal doctor to extract enough details from Cassandra to find coordinates on a map of the Atlantic Ocean. Then Master Del Sombra boarded a Yankee Brigg and cast off from London to waters unknown.
Is the young maid really a reincarnation of Cassandra – Queen the fabled golden city of Orlaak? Will the redheaded captive be saved by her lost warrior Theo? How many days can a sailor survive on a rowboat lost at sea?
You Can’t Win
Wilbur Dobbs was on his way to the electric chair. He counted the steps down the hall as if it would delay the outcome. Maybe the governor would realize how much of a bitch his mother-in-law was to him? Day after day, year after year, the woman’s nagging drove a wedge between his wife and himself. The pipe wrench put an end to the madness.
What lies on the other side for Wilbur Dobbs?

Reviewer Notes
We reach the final issue of Charlton Comics Haunted Love series. It was definitely an interesting journey, but a little disjointed at times. I mentioned in my previous reviews that some of the stories really didn’t have a romance angle (either not at all, or tacked on as if an afterthought). Two of the stories in issue eleven definitely fit that description.
The “Innocent Victim” and “You Can’t Win” stories had no romance included. You can argue Wilbur Dobbs was married, but I don’t think a romance comic could hang its hat on this point. I really enjoyed the Confederate ghost story and the sword and sandals fantasy of Orlaak. The art and writing were excellent in these two stories. I guess it was too little too late at that point.
I believe Charlton Comics discontinued this quarterly series to focus on their main “Haunted” title. I will definitely check out the copies in my collection. I’m giving the final issue of Haunted Love four out of five stars. For the series as a whole I give it a four out of five. I’m not a Charlton Comics expert, but if they would have published issues like this one, they could have continued the series a bit further.
