The daughter of Ymir traipsed around the icy field as the Vanir gave battle to Conan and his Aesir allies. One by one, they all fell, each by the other’s hand. In this edition of Jeffrey Shanks’ expose on Robert E Howard, we are presented with the very erratic publication history of what is now considered Conan the Barbarian’s first true story. From rejections, rebranding, and the appeal of fanzines, Howard’s original short-story “Frost-Giant’s Daughter” has seen many adaptations over the past 85 years. There are some very interesting details here that true Conan fans do not want to miss.

The “Frost-Giant’s Daughter” story has returned, and it’s bigger and bloodier than ever! As a connoisseur of Norse Mythology, I have read the Eddas and anything I can get my hands on in regard to Odin and his kin. I will say now that Robert E. Howard’s take on the Viking gods is truly unique. I give Titan Comics five out of five stars for this awesome issue of Conan the Barbarian.
