“Die By The Sword”
Weeks have gone by with little success. Reed Richards, one of Earth’s finest minds, has invented machines to travel to other dimensions, as well as to outer space, but none of his university degrees has helped him to comprehend the secret world of sorcery. With Doctor Doom hiding behind a dome of pure magic, Reed has become obsessed with breaking through the barrier covering Latveria, and exposing the truth behind Earth’s newest Sorcerer Supreme.
With no other paths to follow, Susan begins a search for an individual adept in both science and sorcery. Then she remembered the name Dane Witman, a descendant of an ancient order of knights dating back to the days of Camelot. The Fantastic Four had fought with and against Witman in the past. It would be there, in his family’s castle, they would find answers. It was time to pay a visit to the Black Knight.
Can Dane Witman lead Reed and Sue to an artifact powerful enough to defeat Doctor Doom’s magical defenses? Why do Dane’s scientific formulas appear unintelligible? What is the ultimate fate of the ebony artifacts? Collect the series to find out!
Reviewer Notes
As Marvel Comics gears up for their new series starring Doctor Doom, Sorcerer Supreme, Ryan North brings back another retro character from obscurity. The Black Knight has returned, and I admit he is one of my favorite Defenders. With The Fantastic Four scheduled for an extended run of 31 issues, Ryan will juggle both series. This is awesome news, as he has been my favorite writer since 2015.
This issue was a blast. I just wish Marvel could have kept the same artist throughout the entire series. I’m giving it four out of five stars. Hopefully, the Black Knight will stick around for a while. He’s an interesting character, to say the least.
