“The Living Mummy!”
Note: Originally reviewed on 10/18/2022
One thousand B.C., in the the long forgotten kingdom of Pharaoh Arem-Set, a slave revolt has rocked the core of Egypt. The gods Ra and Osiris grew angry at the lack of rule and planted a thought in the mind of Nephrus the court magician. To become a leader you must kill those who are in charge. To kill Arem-Set, the slave hero N’Kantu must land the final blow. So it is said, so shall it be.
N’Kantu felled the Pharaoh with the thrust of a spear but then came the betrayal. Nephrus doomed the leader of the Swarilisi tribe to an eternity of imprisonment. A curse of immortality was set upon N’Kantu. His punishment was to be mummified and buried alive inside an unmarked tomb.
An eternity passed, the world changed for some, but not all, then one ill-placed bomb exploded freeing the slave from his burial chamber. Welcome to the Gaza Strip. Welcome to the year 1973.
Can the IDF soldiers Ron and Janice find answers to the recent attacks happening throughout Cairo? Will Doctor Skarab disclose the full history of the Living Mummy? Has the bloodlines of Arem-Set and N’Kantu passed down through the generations? Collect the series to find out!
Reviewer Notes
Supernatural Thrillers number five is Marvel’s re-envisioning of a classic horror icon. Who better to put in charge of the writing than Steve Gerber of Howard the Duck fame. Steve Gerber and artist Rich Buckler breathes new light into the stale mummy mythos. The fun is taken and plopped down in the middle of the Gaza Strip turmoil. Ah, The 70s.
If you can find a copy of this book I definitely recommend getting it. Maybe ask your Mummy for an early Christmas present. I’m giving this three Doctor Skarabs out of five.
