The Zero-Point reactor was designed to provide limitless, self-sustaining energy for the betterment of mankind. First detected on the gladiatorial planet of Warworld, the Genesis energy was brought to earth and developed by Steelwork Industries. The hazardous effects upon Kryptonian DNA would be discovered much later as the free energy initiative was revealed on Metropolis’ annual Superman Day.
Now a battle wages on the streets as the homicidal tech millionaire, Charles Walker III, uses the stolen Zero-Point reactor to power a giant mech camouflaged in Steelworks markings. Near the Daily Planet office building Steel, Natasha, and Superwoman begin a secondary assault on the twenty-story killing machine. All of the other members of the Super Family have been instructed to stay in the Steelworks quarantine zone as the Genesis radiation could send their superpowers into overload.
Downtown near Centennial Park, an odd egg-shaped booth has been unloaded by a crew of Walker Industries security team. Inside the structure Charles is controlling the giant robot through a series of neural and virtual reality interfaces. Jax and the Silver Mist watch in horror as their boss begins to destroy the city.
Will Steel and his allies stop the highly advanced robot powered by Warworld energy? Why is the Genesis radiation destroying the DNA of Superman and his family? Has the Silver Mist seen the error in his ways? Collect the series to find out!
Reviewer Notes
I have to be honest and say I’ve enjoyed this miniseries way more than I thought I would. I’m just a tourist when it comes to the modern DC line of books, but I have been a fan of the Steel character since the 1990s. When I saw Michael Dorn tagged as the writer I just knew Steelworks would be an interesting experience.
Overall the storyline was very solid, and it doesn’t take a lifetime DC fan to understand the details. The art was very well done, and I’m glad they went with Sami Brasi. Top notch overall production in my opinion. I’m giving issue six of Steelworks four out of five stars. The series as a whole I give four out of five stars as well. If you need to fill the boredom definitely check Steelworks out.
