The Dark Wars – Part 03 of 04

Mondo Mordo

Cast into a dimension of ever-staring eyes, Dormammu’s sister Umar, Clea, and Strange have been marooned to live out their days in pain and misery. Transformed by the Exorcism of Transferral, Steven and Clea have been merged in bodies and life essence. The spell is a curse of constant agony. Fortunately for them Umar the Unrelenting knows the counter-spell.

Back on Earth Baron Mordo has tricked Sara Wolfe into freeing him from the mystic cage which was his prison. Sparing no time the megalomaniac places a sleep spell upon Rintrah, Wong, and Imei. The Mists of Morpheus works at lightning speed. Now to stop Dormammu from taking over a world that Mordo has schemed so long to conquer.

Does Baron Mordo have the mystic skills to best the all-powerful Dormammu in one-on-one combat? Will Umar follow Doctor Strange and Clea through the Eye of Agamotto and defend Earth? Can the powers of Hoggoth be enough to close the dark portal hovering over New York City? Collect the series to find out!

The Book Of The Vishanti

Legends And Lore Of The Dark Dimension – Part 03

In this section of the Book of the Vishanti we learn the history of Dormammu’s many attempts to conquer Earth. The timeline of events not only covers the Dark One’s physical attempts but those of cross-dimensional mind manipulation. Jack the Ripper and the German Viscount Krowler are just to name a few. This lineage of battles also involves such superhero teams as the Defenders and the Avengers.

Reviewer Notes

I’m new to the mystic world of Doctor Strange, so I don’t know the writing styles of the various writers. This 1990’s run of the Sorcerer Supreme is an amazing goldmine of meta words. Lol, I believe I would break Instagram with the amount of hashtags needed for each mystic reference uttered in issue number twenty three.

This series has just the right amount of art, dialog, and storytelling to keep a reader involved for some time. It would be nice if Marvel Comics could return to this style of publishing. The newer books (post 2018’ish) just seem to focus on a quick money grab of alternative cover art and hyper-segmented story arcs. Maybe I’m just sounding like an old man here, but give us readers a bang for our buck.

I’ve got one criticism but not sure it’s warranted. What’s the deal with Sara Wolfe? In three issues she hasn’t done anything I would call “super”. Was she just the eye-candy for the 1990’s run of DoctorStrange? Woah-man up for Hoggoth’s sake and take charge, lady.

This is another five star book in my humble opinion. I wasn’t collecting comics during these years, but if I did, I definitely would have these on my pull list. Doctor Strange: Sorcerer Supreme is now on my to find list.
