Night Force – Volume 02 Issue 12

My Rating

Rating: 4 out of 5.

“A Tale Of Temporary Farewells

Baron Winters sits in a majestic field somewhere on a prehistoric landscape. He has some idea how he arrived at the location, but unsure the reasons why. There are many extinct animals in his periphery. The Baron smiles as a pair of unicorns pass him in a gallop. Now he knows. Welcome back to the garden of Eden.

It must be time to atone for his sins. Or possibly his good deeds? Being the balancing point between good and evil is a job unlike no other.

Adam and Eve are the first to recognize the Baron. They have interacted with him in the past, or was it the future. It can all be so confusing. Baron Winters is cordial with the couple. A few quips about apple trees and ribs are exchanged then a dark cloud of an individual arrives. Lilith!

Lilith knows the Baron intimately. They are exlovers and have fought since they were introduced. Today is no different. “Come Baron,” Lilith demands. “The serpent requires your presence.” Baron Winters says his farewell to Adam and Eve and proceeds to the tree of temptation. There the beast resides.

Is this the end of Baron Winters and the Night Force? Does the serpent really make calls from a Motorola flip top cellular phone? Will Merlin the leopard become the man of the house? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

This is the final issue of the second run of Night Force by Marv Wolfman. I was disappointed with the cancellation but I can see why it ended. There was a change in artist for this book. The Hellboy art style was replaced with the original art style from the first few issues. I like both styles, but I can see why Marv took this route.

I’m a fan of the original Night Force series. They dropped the ball on this run. It’s still worth picking up this series if you like horror comics. It would have been nice if Marv Wolfman could have linked it with the mainstream DC Comics universe.
