Red Sonja – Volume 07 Issue 03

My Rating

Rating: 4 out of 5.

“His Master’s Voice – Part 03”

As Red Sonja clashes swords with Thord Varg’s Riders, a large crowd of peasants has slowly begun to surround the melee. The leader of the bloodthirsty Riders, Karal, looks to his left, then his right and stands fast. “Where the hell did they come from?” His stark words fall on distracted ears, as Karal realizes what the people are about to do.

The peasants mindlessly wander forward in waves toward Varg’s Riders while simultaneously pouring vases of lamp oil on their bodies. Red Sonja gazes on in horror as the mindless automatons begin to set themselves on fire. The smell of burning flesh mixed with the pungent smell of oil fills the combatants nostrils. Then the Riders are assaulted by engulfed appendages. Red Sonja begins to retreat as the peasants shout in eerie unison, “Run… Sonja!”.

To the north, a massive army begins its final march toward the unexpected city of Velanger. Inside the walls of the humble citadel, twin sisters await their foreseen champion and the dark treasure she carries with her. Their visions have been lucid but the message is not fully recognized. Reviewer Notes

So the deity that brought life back to Vestfold, and then plagued its people, is a different entity from the one telling peasants to set themselves on fire? Or, is it the same deity playing both sides? My head is about to explode!

Issue three of Red Sonja has a lot going on this time. We get sword fights, divine intervention, and some good old fashioned twins action. No, not that kind of twins action. The sci-fi and fantasy kind. Overall this was an entertaining comic book with some funny parts mixed in. I will give it four out of five stars.
