Fantastic Four – Volume 01 Issue 01
My Rating

Rating: 4 out of 5.

“The Fantastic Four!”

The Central City Police are on high alert as four mysterious people race through the city. Are they Martians? Maybe Monsters? One thing is clear, they certainly are not fully human!

How did these beings get their god-like powers? It all started with a scientist, his fiancée and her brother. Not to mention a good friend. These are the origins of The Fantastic Four!

“The Fantastic Four Meet The Mole Man!”

Something is destroying atomic power stations across the globe! But what is large enough to undermine building foundations? The installations are literally sinking into gigantic sinkholes.

With multiple governments baffled, scientist turned superhero, Reed Richards, and his team have taken it upon themselves to unravel the mystery. With new radar technology in hand, The Fantastic Four pinpoint a trail of seismic activity leading to the fable location known as Monster Island. But do monsters really exist? As they begin their investigation, a man of moles makes himself known. Is he friend or foe?

“The Mole Man’s Secret!”

The Mole Man! It was his diabolical work that threatened to destabilize energy production in every civilized nation. But why? As Mister Fantastic and the Human Torch listen to the madman in his secret lair, above ground on the rocky shores of Monster Island, the Thing and Invisible Girl fight off an attack from one of the guardians who patrol for interlopers!

Do Ben and Susan possess enough power in the cosmic-ray-infused bodies to defeat such a titan? Why has the fiend who calls himself Mole Man shunned every part of human society? Will Ben ever forgive Reed for exposing the team to DNA-altering cosmic energy? Collect the series to find out!

Reviewer Notes

This week, Marvel Comics released another facsimile version of the one comic book which started it all. The Fantastic Four – Volume 01 Issue 01 from 1961! Inside we are introduced to the new superhero team that would bring Marvel Comics to the forefront of modern age comic book publishing. With future legends Stan Lee and Jack Kirby at the helm, they created a powerhouse entertainment property that is still with us 60 years later.

As a fan of The Fantastic Four, I praise Marvel for re-releasing this classic for a new generation of kids to read. For those like me who dream of owning an original copy of this book, they are going for as much as $250,000.00 dollars in good condition. I guess some things are just never meant to be. It matters little. With this facsimile version, all the awesomeness of The Fantastic Four’s origins story can be enjoyed by all. I give it a fantastic four out of five stars in every aspect. Thank you, Stan and Jack!
