“The Dungeon Of Frankenstein”

The arm of a giant reached through the door of the castle, grabbing at Lakota Rainflower. Her scream was guttural. In her worst nightmares, Doctor Spektor’s assistant never knew such a horror. The Frankenstein Monster was quick, with the strength of steel vices. There was no fighting this corruption of science. Lakota is dragged inside the keep.

Why had the most well known expert in the occult taken interest in a fictional tale about a scientist and his creation? What had drawn the famous psychic medium, Elliott Kane, to Castle Frankenstein? Will Doctor Spektor save his friends before their minds are forever corrupted by a spiteful creature from another age?

“Temple Of The Lion”

The two scientists finally discovered the location of the African temple of the Lion God! For two centuries, rumors had spread across continents of the magic elixir which gave men command over lions. Now Dr. Samuel Barr and Dr. Thomas Gordon stood in the overgrown courtyard where the cult performed their rituals. The secret would soon be theirs.

As Dr. Gordon began translating the ancient scripts carved into weathered sandstone, Dr. Barry schemed nearby over a golden lion statue the two had found earlier that day. To hell with the formula! The golden idol must be worth a fortune. His partner could have all the scholastic honor he wanted. Barry would take being rich beyond his wildest imagination. That is if the old Witch Doctor would stay out of their way.

What is the secret behind the lion elixir passed down from the gods? Who is the creature called Simbar? Will the Witch Doctor convince Dr. Barry to leave the golden lion statue where it remains? Collect the series to find out!

Review

Writer Don Glut and Artist Jesse Santos bring an unusual take on the Frankenstein Monster in this issue of Doctor Spektor. The monster is not the misunderstood innocent as portrayed in Mary Shelley‘s original story. No, the creature is back, and this time he is a vengeful sociopath.  Along with the African treasure hunting story, I give issue six of Doctor Spektor three out of five stars.

Old school horror fans should like this one. Those who like ongoing themes and character development might want to pass. I’m a sucker for both.
